Baseball Recap: Piedmont Academy Falls Short of Dominion Christian in the Playoffs

Piedmont Academy and Dominion Christian squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Piedmont Academy had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by just one run.

Alex Statham was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Piedmont Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 9-12 when he doesn't). Chase Taylor was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Piedmont Academy dropped their record down to 14-13 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.8 runs. As for Dominion Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 20 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season.
