Basketball Recap: Santa Ana Valley Comes Up Short

If Santa Ana Valley was feeling good fresh off their 53-31 takedown of St. Lucy's on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Santa Ana Valley Falcons were beaten by the El Modena Vanguards 60-27 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 915th, while the Vanguards are ranked 434th).

When it comes to explaining why Santa Ana Valley lost, don't look at Jocelyn Guadalupe. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points. Jakeline Campos was another key player, putting up six points.

Santa Ana Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for El Modena, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1.

Santa Ana Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 44-14 victory against Glenn on the 16th. El Modena and Norwalk will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. El Modena's defense has only allowed 19.8 points per game this season, so Norwalk's offense will have their work cut out for them.
