Two dominant wideouts in Hunter Wright and Daniel Contreras are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Bisbee Pumas will square off against the Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Friday, Bisbee was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 21-16 to Palo Verde. Despite 143 more yards than the Titans, the Pumas couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Although Bisbee took the loss, they still got scores from Wright and Tripp Turner.
While Bisbee came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Palo Verde: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 20%. The team can thank Cameron Anderson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Bisbee wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 53.3%.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Santa Cruz Valley over Desert Christian in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Dust Devils blew the Eagles out of the water with a 57-15 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-7.
Santa Cruz Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Carlos Cruz and Adam Montijo, who each picked up one interception apiece. Cruz got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The win snapped Santa Cruz Valley's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-5 record. As for Bisbee, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Bisbee has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 158.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Santa Cruz Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 219.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Bisbee might still be hurting after the 30-7 defeat they got from Santa Cruz Valley in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Thankfully for the Pumas, Aidan Ysaguirre (who rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
