Softball Recap: Freeman Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Freeman's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Grand Island Central Catholic on Monday. The Falcons had just enough and edged out the Wahoo Warriors 7-6. That's more bragging rights for the Falcons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sydney Lenners made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Lenners wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaylie Beu, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Hunter Haner also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Freeman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Freeman's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Wahoo, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.

Coming up, Freeman will face off against Raymond Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wahoo, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 6-5 defeat against Grand Island Central Catholic on the 29th.
