Vanessa Gonzalez leads Holtville to victory over Coronado

Recap: Holtville Vikings vs. Coronado Islanders

The Holtville Vikings's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against Coronado by a score of 42-33. That's another feather in the cap for Holtville, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

Vanessa Gonzalez was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 11 times she's played. Jasmine Garewal was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

Selena Herrera and Susanna Pate certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Herrera scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Pate scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Pate is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Virginia Ryan, who scored two points along with five steals.

Holtville's victory bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Coronado, they bumped their record down to 1-11 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holtville will take on Central at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Coronado, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on High Tech CV at 11:00 a.m. on January 27th.
