Soccer Game Preview: Albany vs. Head-Royce

The Albany Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Head-Royce Jayhawks at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Albany had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the five-goal drubbing they dealt Richmond on Thursday. The Cougars never let the Oilers get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for Albany considering their one-goal performance the match before.

They hit Richmond with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Abigail Bailey (2), Cassidy Sullivan, Valerie Li, and Yasmine Waharte.

Meanwhile, Athenian kept up with Head-Royce until halftime on Tuesday, but afterwards: not so much. The Jayhawks were the clear victors by a 4-0 margin over the Owls. The victory continues a trend for Head-Royce in their matchups with Athenian: they've now won eight in a row.

Albany's win bumped their record up to 9-4-5. As for Head-Royce, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Albany couldn't quite get it done against Head-Royce in their previous matchup back in February of 2025 as they fell 3-1. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
