Basketball Recap: Santa Catalina Comes Up Short

Santa Catalina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 64-12 defeat at the hands of the King City Mustangs. The Cougars lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in February of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 51-34 score last time.

King City found their leader in freshman Crystal Paramo, who went 8 of 11 on her way to 17 points in addition to six steals and five boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Paramo has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Katia Slama, who posted 14 points and six steals.

Santa Catalina's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for King City, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 3-10 record this season.

Santa Catalina wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 42-16 defeat against Pajaro Valley on the 13th. As for King City, they will square off against Palma at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palma's defense has only allowed 25.5 points per game this season, so King City's offense will have their work cut out for them.
