Baseball Game Preview: Valley View Spartans vs. Monroe Hornets

Valley View hasn't had much luck against Monroe recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Hornets at 11:00 a.m. Valley View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Things were looking good for Valley View after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 10-4 to Archbishop Alter.

Valley View got a good showing from Carson Wiley, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Wiley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Caleb Wright and Austin Johnson did some serious damage despite the final result: Wright went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Burkett, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Monroe waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 7-3.

Monroe's win bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Valley View, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-13.

Valley View skirted past Monroe 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
