Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Gretna East's Third in Last Four Outings

Gretna East and Bennington pushed the score to 18-10 the last time they played Bennington, but on Saturday defenses reigned supreme. The Griffins' pitcher stepped up to hand the Badgers a 4-0 shutout. For the Griffins, this counts as revenge for the 18-10 win the Badgers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Not much got past Hadley McDowell, who gave up just two hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Bennington off the board. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for McDowell.

On the hitting side, Rylan Anderson was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last eight contests. Aubrey Horst also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Gretna East has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bennington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Gretna East has already played their next contest, a 4-0 win against Elkhorn on the 13th. As for Bennington, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 8-3 loss against Waverly on the 13th.
