Baseball Recap: Neumann Victorious

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Neumann ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cambridge Christian Lancers 6-5. The Celtics have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lancers, too.

Luke Parrish made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other pitching news, OB Osceola looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Cole Travers and Gus Fusco did most of the damage at the plate: Travers got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple and two RBI, while Fusco got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That triple was Travers' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Darien Kester, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

The victory got Neumann back to even at 2-2. As for Cambridge Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2-1.

Coming up, Neumann will be playing at home against Canterbury at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cambridge Christian, they will head out to take on Bishop Verot at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lancers 4, the Vikings 0.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
