Soccer Game Preview: San Joaquin Memorial vs. Torres

The San Joaquin Memorial Panthers will head out to face off against the Torres Toros at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Joaquin Memorial's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for four straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

It was a proper cat-fight when San Joaquin Memorial faced off against Edison on Friday. Neither San Joaquin Memorial nor Edison could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw. The result (or lack thereof) was the first time the Panthers have been dealt a draw since back in January.

Meanwhile, Torres kept a clean sheet against Madera on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over the Coyotes. Given the Toros' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while the Coyotes are ranked 938th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Torres' one-goal win came courtesy of Emma Velasquez, who's now up to 21 this season.

Torres has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those six contests. With that draw, San Joaquin Memorial's record moves to 7-13-4.

San Joaquin Memorial came up short against Torres when the teams last played last Friday, falling 2-0. Can San Joaquin Memorial avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
