Soccer Game Preview: Lovett vs. Woodward Academy

Lovett is 1-7 against Woodward Academy since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lions will look to defend their home pitch against the War Eagles at 4:15 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lovett made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Holy Innocents Episcopal, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Lions never let the Golden Bears get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for Lovett, who have now won six games by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Woodward Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2 goals) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Bulldogs. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Woodward Academy's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Chamblee are ranked 131st).

Woodward Academy's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five contests. As for Lovett, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-7 record.
