Softball Recap: Richmond Spartans vs. Lexington Minutemen
Richmond extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-3. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lexington Minutemen. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 19-4 to the Minutemen when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Lexington, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.
For Lexington's part, Katy Carter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on 12 hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Zoey Earnest was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in October of 2024.
Coming up, Richmond will square off against Summit Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Lexington, they will challenge Braymer at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
