Softball Preview: Northgate Vikings vs. East Coweta Indians

Northgate is 1-9 against East Coweta since September of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Vikings will head out to square off against the Indians at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Northgate 2.8, East Coweta 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Northgate came out on top against Newnan on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Vikings walked away with a 7-2 win over the Cougars. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Ella Coburn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Trinity Hargrett was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Khaler, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, East Coweta made easy work of Thomas County Central on Friday and carried off a 13-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

McKenna Holmes looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gaby Gopie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
