Basketball Game Preview: El Rancho Dons vs. La Serna Lancers

El Rancho is 2-8 against La Serna since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The El Rancho Dons will head out to face off against the La Serna Lancers at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in El Rancho's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.

El Rancho is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing El Monte: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that El Rancho blew El Monte out of the water with a 66-6 final score. The Dons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 21 points or more this season.

El Rancho's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carissa Basurto, who went 7 of 12 from beyond the arc on her way to 23 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Basurto a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emery Riker, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 boards.

El Rancho smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, La Serna was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 46-41 to Garfield.

El Rancho pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.8 points per game. As for La Serna, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season.

El Rancho came up short against La Serna in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 42-32. Can El Rancho avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
