Softball Recap: Academy for Classical Education Has No Trouble Against Dodge County

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Taylor County, Academy for Classical Education was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They blew past the Dodge County Indians 11-3. Considering the Gryphons' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Giselle Giles made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Giles was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Sophie Denney was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Reese Thames, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Academy for Classical Education always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Academy for Classical Education picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Dodge County, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy for Classical Education will square off against Peach County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gryphons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Dodge County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Laurens at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
