Basketball Game Preview: Bakersfield Christian Eagles vs. Shafter Generals

Bakersfield Christian has won three straight games at home, while Shafter has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Bakersfield Christian Eagles will host the Shafter Generals at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Bakersfield Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Ridgeview 78-31. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Wolf Pack are ranked 648th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Shafter made easy work of Templeton on Friday and carried off a 37-15 win.

Bakersfield Christian better keep an eye on Alexia Ramirez. She was instrumental in Shafter's win, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Ramirez has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Kyla Schooley was another key player, putting up four points in addition to 11 boards and three blocks.

Shafter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Shafter is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.4 points over those games. As for Bakersfield Christian, they now have a winning record of 15-14.

Bakersfield Christian took their victory against Shafter in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 70-45. Will Bakersfield Christian repeat their success, or does Shafter have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
