Baseball Recap: Belleville West Comes Up Short

After flying high against Belleville East on Thursday, Belleville West came back down to earth. The Maroons fell just short of the Waterloo Bulldogs by a score of 5-4 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Maroons of the 12-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Colton Ferrara was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Belleville West saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adam Bilzing, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Belleville West's record now sits at 19-12-1. As for Waterloo, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season.

Belleville West and Waterloo are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Maroons will be playing in front of their home fans against Belleville East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Waterloo, they will host Civic Memorial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
