Basketball Recap: Marquez Skates Past Torres with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Marquez's strategy against Torres on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Marquez Gladiators blew the Torres Toros out of the water with a 47-10 final score. The Gladiators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 27 points or more this season.

Marquez had a senior duo take command as Magaly Gonzalez almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards and Corshell Vaughn dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Vaughn has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last 36 times she's played. Jasmine Pozuelos was another key player, putting up six points and seven boards.

Marquez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Marquez pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.7 points per game. As for Torres, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

As for Torres, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Elizabeth at 4:00 p.m. Torres is facing Elizabeth at the right time seeing as Elizabeth is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
