Softball Recap: Pepperell Comes Up Short

Pepperell extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-17. They lost 8-0 to the North Murray Mountaineers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mountaineers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 last Thursday.

As for North Murray, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For North Murray's part, they got a great performance from Chanley Langham as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Langham has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaitlyn Malone was excellent, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Beavers, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Pepperell will host Armuchee at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Dragons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for North Murray, they will venture away from home to challenge Murray County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
