Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Santa Clara

Santa Clara waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They had just enough and edged the Villanova Prep Wildcats out 34-31. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Saints also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.

Santa Clara's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alissa Carbajal led the charge by putting up 14 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Angelina Serna, who posted four points in addition to ten boards and four steals.

Santa Clara smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Santa Clara pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 16.0 points per game. As for Villanova Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Santa Clara beat Villanova Prep by a score of 52-48 on Tuesday.
