Soccer Game Preview: Waterloo East vs. Marshalltown

The Waterloo East Trojans will take on the Marshalltown Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Waterloo East has given up an average of 5.2 goals per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Waterloo East is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Des Moines North just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 12-0 to the Polar Bears. While losing is never fun, Waterloo East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa soccer rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Des Moines North are ranked 23rd).

Meanwhile, Marshalltown has been on a difficult stretch since their win on the 5th. They and Perry finished up on equal footing with a 4-4 draw on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Marshalltown as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Marshalltown's draw gives them a new season record of 3-5-1. As for Waterloo East, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Waterloo East suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Marshalltown in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
