Volleyball Preview: Columbus Discoverers vs. Norfolk Panthers
The Columbus Discoverers will head out on the road to square off against the Norfolk Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Columbus didn't have quite enough to beat Lincoln Southeast and fell 3-2. The Discoverers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Columbus actually scored more points across those five sets (107-103), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-12.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ayla Janssen, who had 18 kills, eight digs, and two aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Paighton Erb, who had 15 digs and 14 kills.
Even though they lost, Columbus was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September.
Meanwhile, Norfolk came up short against Bellevue West on Saturday and fell 2-0.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-14.
Columbus' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8. As for Norfolk, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season.
