Basketball Game Preview: Futures Knights vs. Mesa Verde Mavericks

The Futures Knights will take on the Mesa Verde Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Futures is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest win since January 11th on Monday. Everything went their way against Florin as Futures made off with a 50-24 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Sasha Salfetnikov was a one-man wrecking crew for Futures as she dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Salfetnikov has scored at least a third of Futures' points. Emma Kharchenko was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 20 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Mesa Verde hadn't done well against Western Sierra Collegiate Academy recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Mesa Verde walked away with a 30-19 win over Western Sierra Collegiate Academy.

Futures better keep an eye on Grace Johnson. She was instrumental in Mesa Verde's win, putting up 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Alexander, who posted three points, to go along with 15 rebounds and five blocks.

Mesa Verde is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Futures, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.

Futures didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Mesa Verde when the teams last played back in December of 2017, but they still walked away with a 28-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Futures since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
