Softball Recap: Wray/Yuma Comes Up Short

After flying high against Chase County on Tuesday, Wray/Yuma came back down to earth. The Eagles came up short against the Valley Vikings on Saturday, falling 15-3. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.

Danyelle Davis was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and 12 unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Lauren Gdanitz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Autumn Maggard was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Wray/Yuma's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.

Wray/Yuma wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against McCook on the 18th. As for Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-0 defeat against Eaton on the 16th.
