Softball Recap: Skyline Comes Up Short

Skyline extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-9. They came up short against the Thornton Trojans, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 27-0 two weeks ago.

As for Thornton, they pushed their record up to 16-2-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

For Thornton's part, Mya Grady made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Grady has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Ornelas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abbi Trombetta, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Coincidentally, Skyline and Thornton will both be playing Aurora Central the next time they take the field. The Falcons will head out to face the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Trojans will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
