Calaveras picks up fifth straight win at home

Recap: Calaveras Red Hawks vs. Summerville Bears

The Calaveras Red Hawks's game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They greeted the New Year with with a 52-36 victory over Summerville. Given Calaveras' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while Summerville is ranked 771st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Calaveras' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izzy Tapia, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tapia is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Clark, who scored nine points along with six assists and six steals.

Calaveras' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Summerville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calaveras will face off against Argonaut at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Summerville, they will head out on the road to face off against Amador at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
