Softball Game Preview: Grand Junction Central Warriors vs. Grand Junction Tigers

For the second straight game, Grand Junction Central will face off against Grand Junction. The Warriors will head out to face off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Grand Junction Central easily dispatched Rampart on Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Warriors fell just short of Grand Junction by a score of 10-8 on Tuesday. The Warriors' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

For Grand Junction's part, Kloe Donahue was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Donahue has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashley Gonzalez, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Jacquelyn Boyd was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Grand Junction was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in 12 consecutive matchups.

Grand Junction is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Grand Junction Central, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
