Basketball Recap: St. Bernard Comes Up Short

St. Bernard was the 59-34 winner over Sacred Heart of Jesus when they last played one another back in December of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The St. Bernard Vikings were outmatched by the Sacred Heart of Jesus Comets and fell 47-12. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 23-2.

They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Haiden Alexander and Caylan Versher, who each put up four points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sacred Heart of Jesus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gizelle Valencia, who posted 12 points along with five boards and four steals. Valencia continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Michelle Canete, who had eight points in addition to six assists and four steals.

St. Bernard is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4. As for Sacred Heart of Jesus, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-12.

St. Bernard has already played their next match, a 63-28 win against San Gabriel Mission on the 18th. As for Sacred Heart of Jesus, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-35 defeat against La Serna on the 17th.
