Softball Game Preview: Jackson County Panthers vs. Alcovy Tigers

The Jackson County Panthers will head out to face off against the Alcovy Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jackson County will be strutting in after a victory while Alcovy will be coming in after a defeat.

On Tuesday, Jackson County made easy work of Winder-Barrow and carried off a 9-1 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Adalyn Mitchell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emery Schiffmann, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August. Miabella Lee also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Alcovy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 9-2 to Habersham Central.

Destiny Floyd made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ra'Niya Smith, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Jackson County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Alcovy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-20.

Jackson County took their win against Alcovy in their previous meeting back in September by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
