Basketball Recap: Modoc Piles Up the Points Against Burney

Modoc had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They breezed by the Burney Raiders to the tune of 61-26. The Braves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 25 points or more this season.

Modoc got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Katie Erquiaga out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most rebounds Erquiaga has posted since back in November of 2023. Mackenzie Diven was another key player, going 5 for 12 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Modoc smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Burney still got an impressive performance from Mia Perez, who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Witzel, who had four points along with six boards and three steals.

Modoc has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Burney, with the loss, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-2.

Modoc will face off against Enterprise at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Modoc knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Enterprise likes a good challenge. As for Burney, they will square off against Redding Christian at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
