Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Hermelinda Ocegueda and Lucy Murillo Lead Fillmore to Victory

Fillmore's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They took down the Channel Islands Raiders 41-23. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 29-21 back in December of 2024.

Leading Fillmore to victory were Lucy Murillo and Hermelinda Ocegueda. Murillo dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 boards, while Ocegueda dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Those 18 points gave Murillo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrea Ramirez, who posted five points and six boards.

Fillmore has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-16 record this season. As for Channel Islands, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fillmore will venture away from home to take on Nordhoff at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Channel Islands, they are taking a road trip to challenge Hueneme at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
