Basketball Preview: Big Sandy Wildcats vs. McLeod Longhorns
The Big Sandy Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the McLeod Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Big Sandy has not done well against the Lions recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Big Sandy blew past the Lions, posting a 74-30 victory at home. Winning may never get old, but Big Sandy sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Big Sandy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malijah Francis, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Francis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. Trey Coleman was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, McLeod can now show off 16 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They blew past Ore City 68-35 on the road. Given McLeod's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 524th, while the Rebels are ranked 1545th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Big Sandy's victory bumped their record up to 11-13. As for McLeod, they pushed their record up to 30-3 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Big Sandy came up short against the Longhorns when the teams last played back in January, falling 68-60. Can Big Sandy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
