The Wray/Yuma Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Burlington Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wray/Yuma has five straight wins, Burlington has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Wray/Yuma made easy work of Holyoke and carried off a 13-2 victory. Considering the Eagles have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Wray/Yuma got a massive performance out of Danyelle Davis, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of London King, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Wray/Yuma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Burlington's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-0 to Southeast Colorado, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Wray/Yuma now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Burlington, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wray/Yuma has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Burlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wray/Yuma took their win against Burlington when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 17-8 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
