Basketball Recap: Mercer Mustangs vs. Jamestown Muskies
The Mercer Mustangs waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Jamestown 55-38. Given Mercer's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while the Muskies are ranked 651st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jamestown's loss came despite strong showings from Alayna Cadman and Ivy Riley. Cadman scored 19 points, while Riley scored 12 points. That was a full 50% of Jamestown's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Mercer pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points per game. As for Jamestown, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Mercer will head out on the road to challenge the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jamestown, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the at 7:00 p.m. Kennedy Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully the Muskies like a good challenge.
