Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Spartans vs. Coventry Comets

The Springfield Spartans will challenge the Coventry Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield hasn't scored more than a single run for four games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Springfield came up short against Lake Center Christian on Thursday, falling 8-1. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly seven runs.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Coventry ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Canton South. The win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.

The team relied heavily on Ryan Snyder, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Dimeff, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 5-19. As for Coventry, their record is now 7-18.

Springfield beat Coventry 6-3 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
