Volleyball Recap: Alexander Central Takes a Loss + How To Watch

If Alexander Central was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Freedom on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars fell just short of the Ashe County Huskies by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Cougars have struggled against the Huskies recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Alexander Central wouldn't go down easily and took Ashe County into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-18, 16-25, 22-25, 15-13.

Reagan Pierce paced Alexander Central's offense, picking up 15 kills. Pierce got some help from Makayla Williams and her 18 assists. Williams was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ashe County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kinzley Blevins, who had 27 digs and six aces. With that strong performance, Blevins is now averaging an impressive 10.1 digs per game. Jose Cheek was another key player, getting 33 assists and 15 digs.

Alexander Central's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Ashe County, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5.

Alexander Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against South Caldwell on the 23rd. As for Ashe County, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Elkin on the 23rd.
