Softball Recap: Cedar Shoals Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Cedar Shoals came into Monday's matchup having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Central Gwinnett Black Knights 9-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-8 back in August.

Gretta Garrett was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Garrett was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August.

In other batting news, Ky'Esha Gainer was a standout: she got on base in two of her three plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jewel Daniels, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Cedar Shoals' victory bumped their record up to 6-16. As for Central Gwinnett, they dropped their record down to 1-23 with the loss, which was their 23rd straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cedar Shoals will face off against East Forsyth at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central Gwinnett, they will challenge Beach at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
