Volleyball Recap: Grand Island Comes Up Short

Grand Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They came up short against the Fremont Tigers, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Islanders of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Grand Island was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-22, 25-17.

Aralynn Scheel paced Grand Island's offense, picking up 11 kills. Scheel got some help from Alexa Sackschewsky and her 16 assists.

Fremont can attribute much of their success to Jenna Ellsworth, who had 13 digs. Ellsworth is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Grand Island's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Fremont, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Grand Island will face off against Lincoln Southeast on Tuesday. As for Fremont, they will challenge Burke at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
