Football Recap: Grants Takes a Loss + How To Watch

After flying high against Miyamura last Friday, Grants came back down to earth. The Pirates took a 34-20 bruising from the St. Pius X Sartans on Friday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Sartans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Grants still got an impressive performance from Tristin Fernandez, who rushed for 100 yards and one score on only 11 carries, and also threw for 223 yards while completing 71.4% of his passes. Fernandez's longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Julian Fernandez was in the mix as well, providing Grants with two TDs.

While Grants came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for St. Pius X: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 34.6%. The team can thank Cardenio Chavez for the heroic effort on defense: he. Given Fernandez's standout performance, it's clear St. Pius X's secondary just wasn't on the same level.

St. Pius X's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hershul Olloway Jr, who rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns. That's the most rushing touchdowns Olloway Jr has posted since back in October of 2024. Isaiah Carpenter was another key player, throwing for 159 yards and one TD.

Grants' defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for St. Pius X, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grants will head out to square off against Dexter at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Pius X, they will square off against Moriarty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
