Basketball Recap: Coastal Academy Takes a Loss

Coastal Academy was the 36-35 winner over High Tech Mesa when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Coastal Academy Stingrays were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 23-22 to the High Tech Mesa Thunder. While the Stingrays didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Thunder 10-4 in the first quarter.

Defeat or not, Coastal Academy got some senior leadership from Heiress Afalava and London Afalava. Heiress posted eight points and 15 rebounds, while London earned eight points. Heiress has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last seven times she's played.

Even though they lost, Coastal Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Coastal Academy's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for High Tech Mesa, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Coming up, Coastal Academy will host Mountain Empire at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for High Tech Mesa, they will head out to challenge Bonsall at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
