Basketball Recap: Alison Cozby's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sierra over Manteca

Sierra was the 57-49 winner over Manteca when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Sierra Timberwolves fell 53-44 to the Manteca Buffaloes on Tuesday. The Timberwolves' loss continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.

Several Timberwolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alison Cozby, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Cozby has posted since back in December of 2024. Emalina Latu was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Sierra smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Michailla Springs was nothing short of spectacular for Manteca: she went 8 of 18 on her way to 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalaja Reese, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Sierra's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Manteca, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-15.

Sierra will be playing in front of their home fans against Oakdale at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sierra has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Manteca, they will host Patterson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Manteca is facing Patterson at the right time seeing as Patterson is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
