Baseball Recap: Vandalia Comes Up Short

Vandalia extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 10-11. They came up short against the Pana Panthers, falling 12-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 on Tuesday.

Qwentyn Stombaugh made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Kohnor Depew was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Pana, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

On Pana's side, Brylan Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carder Burris, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Lincoln Burris also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Coming up, Vandalia will host Brownstown/St. Elmo at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pana, they will head out to challenge Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
