Baseball Game Preview: Wilcox County Patriots vs. Hawkinsville Red Devils

For the second straight game, Wilcox County will face off against Hawkinsville. Wilcox County will host Hawkinsville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Wilcox County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

While Wilcox County's victory against Hawkinsville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Wilcox County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Hawkinsville on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Patriots have won by just one run.

Jake Howell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 16 over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Deacon McDuffie, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Bo Bloodworth was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Wilcox County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. With the defeat, Hawkinsville broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-7.
