Baseball Game Preview: Minerva Lions vs. Cambridge Bobcats

The Minerva Lions will face off against the Cambridge Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Minerva is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Carrollton get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Not much got past Braydon Wood, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Carrollton off the board. Wood has become a key player for Minerva: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 9-12 otherwise.

At the plate, Minerva saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brennan Barnes, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Cambridge ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Claymont. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bobcats have posted since April 15th.

The victory got Minerva back to even at 13-13. As for Cambridge, their win bumped their record up to 17-9.

Minerva suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Cambridge in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
