Recap: Linden Lions vs. Chavez Titans
This season hasn't been kind to the Linden Lions, who are still winless after their 14th contest. They took a hard 37-18 fall against Chavez on Thursday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Linden in their matchups with Chavez: they've now lost seven in a row.
Linden's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackie Mercer, who scored six points. Mercer scored a full 33.3% of Linden's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chavez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zalika White, who scored 12 points along with seven steals and three blocks. That's the first time this season that White posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Yann, who scored five points along with six assists and three blocks.
Linden bumped their record down to 0-14 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.9 points per game. As for Chavez, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Linden will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Venture Academy at 2:30 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Venture Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Friday. As for Chavez, they will head out on the road to face off against Weston Ranch at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
