Basketball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

Newport lost against Greenwood back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Newport Buffaloes took a blow against the Greenwood Wildcats, falling 64-20. The Buffaloes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-6.

Leading Greenwood to victory were Sylvia Gantt and Bekah Brinser. Gantt went 7 of 16 on her way to 20 points and six steals, while Brinser posted 16 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Those six steals gave Gantt a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Myers, who had eight points and four steals.

Newport's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Greenwood, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

Newport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-31 defeat against Line Mountain on the 9th. As for Greenwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-45 victory against Susquenita on the 10th.
