Baseball Game Preview: Montini Catholic Broncos vs. Fenwick Friars

The Montini Catholic Broncos will venture away from home to challenge the Fenwick Friars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Montini Catholic hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Montini Catholic's offense. They came up short against Sandburg on Wednesday, falling 6-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Broncos were not able to get on the board.

Fenwick came out on top against Leo on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run sixth inning. The Friars were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Lions. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Friars as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Luke Hickey looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryan Lazewski, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Fenwick is 6-1-1 when Lazewski posts two or more runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was JJ Obaldo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Montini Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 15-11. As for Fenwick, their record now sits at 11-12-1.

Montini Catholic couldn't quite get it done against Fenwick in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
