Basketball Game Preview: Sunny Hills Lancers vs. Crean Lutheran Saints

The Sunny Hills Lancers will take on the Crean Lutheran Saints at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Sunny Hills is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Sunny Hills lost to Canyon on the road by a 55-41 margin.

Despite the defeat, Sunny Hills saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rianna Jones went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points along with six boards and six steals. Jones is becoming a predictor of Sunny Hills' success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 11-5 (and 3-7 when she doesn't). Sydney Kim was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Even though they lost, Sunny Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Crean Lutheran came up short against Esperanza on Tuesday and fell 58-46. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Saints came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Aztecs are ranked 102nd).

Crean Lutheran's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-5. As for Sunny Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.
