Basketball Recap: Mercy Comes Up Short

Mercy easily dispatched Balboa last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Mercy Bears fell just short of the Crystal Springs Uplands Gryphons by a score of 34-31 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 54-32 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2022.

Riley Martin was the offensive standout of the game as she dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Sophia Cervantes was another key player, putting up five points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Mercy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. As for Crystal Springs Uplands, their win bumped their record up to an identical 7-5.

Mercy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 36-24 loss against Eastside College Prep on the 31st. As for Crystal Springs Uplands, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-41 defeat against King's Academy on the 30th.
